On February 28th, 2018 the Boston Children’s Hospital League was honored to welcome author Amy Silverstein to speak to a sold out crowd of League supporters. Amy is the author of My Glory Was I Had Such Friends – a book about the power of friendship and the resilience of the human spirit. As Amy waited for her second heart transplant, her friends banded together, made cross-country trips to her hospital bed and supported Amy through the months of pain and patience. As Amy told her story, with emphasis on the strength of her friendships as well as her own enduring spirit, there was not a dry eye in the room. Thank you, Amy, for sharing your intimate story and for celebrating the power of female friendships. “We were grown daughters all, some mothers of high school or college kids, a few of us seasoned career women. We had become our middle-aged selves. Our wisest, steadiest, most powerful selves yet. And we discovered a new best in ourselves together because I was dying, really dying this time, and we weren’t twenty-five anymore.”
